Yorgos Mavropsaridis was born in Athens in 1954. He finished school in 1972 and went on to study Theatre at the “Theatriko Ergastiri” drama school where he graduated from in 1975.
He studied Art and Film Technique at the London Film School, where he graduated in 1978.
Since 1982 he’s been working as an editor both in the commercial world as well as in cinema, with short and feature films. Some of his most significant works are the following:
-I Skiahtra by Manousos Manousakis in 1986. Received Best Editing award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, as well as the state award for Best Editing.
-Terirem by Apostolos Doxiadis
-Apontes by Nikos Grammatikos
-M’ agapas? by Giorgos Panousopoulos. Official Participation at the Venice International Film Festival in 1989
-Politiki Kouzina by Tassos Boulmetis. 2004 state award for Best Editing
-Hardcore by Dennis Iliades. People’s choice award at the Oldenburg Film Festival.
-Kinetta by Giorgos Lanthimos. Participation at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2005 and the 2006 Berlinale Forum.
-Loufa kai parallagi-Sirens in the Aegean by Nicos Perakis
-Dogtooth by Giorgos Lanthimos. Un Certain Regard award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film of the Year 2010.
-Porfirio by Al. Landes, as associate editor
-Alps by Giorgos Lanthimos. Official participation at the Venice Film Festival. Received Best Feature Award at the Sydney Festival in 2012.
Has been teaching the art of editing in various film schools since the year 2000.
